Guadeloupe
The Butterfly Island Paradise
A few hours away from New York City, Guadeloupe is one of the first destinations I would recommend for French learners. It offers an authentic French-speaking environment, a beautiful fusion of French and Caribbean cultures, scenic and diverse landscapes and a safe and accessible destination for international travellers.
A French Caribbean Archipelago
So why do they call Guadeloupe the butterfly island? Guadeloupe's mainland (two islands (Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre joined by a strait) resembles a butterfly when viewed from above. Each side offers completely different experiences.

The archipelago is complemented by the additional islands of les Saintes, Marie Galante and La Désirade. With a range of white and black sand beaches, lush rainforests, bustling markets and volcanic hot springs, the destination is perfect for those who want variety without extensive travel days. And,unlike some Caribbean islands heavily influenced by tourism, Guadeloupe maintains its authentic character.
